If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. Stop renaming!

[edit]

Please stop renaming like this: File:National Rail NR class locomotive in Indian Pacific livery at fuelling point at Cook, South Australia in October 2019.jpg. There is no reason for renaming and you should respect the user schema. Please rename the file back to the old name File:Cook (AU), Indian Pacific Express -- 2019 -- 0636.jpg. --XRay talk 12:17, 28 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

BTW: Please respect COM:RENAME. --XRay talk 12:35, 28 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

XRay,
I haven't seen any Wikimedia Commons guidance about "respecting the user schema". What is the particular schema you are talking about?
There are in fact several reasons for renaming this image. I take my lead from Item 2 in the table at COM RENAME: "To change from a ... ambiguous name to a name that describes what the image particularly displays".
"Indian Pacific Express" is a very, very broad title that does not make the file sufficiently distinguishable. The fact that "Indian Pacific" is on the front of the locomotive does not mean it is necessarily on the front end of that train -- locomotves in that scheme can be seen all over Australia on freight trains. "AU" is not a good abbreviation; "Australia" would be better.
What does the image show, in objective terms? A National Rail NR class locomotive.
What is notable about it? It's in Indian Pacific livery.
What distinguishes it from other such photos? It is at a fuelling point.
Where and when? Cook, South Australia in October 2019.
Hence the file name, National Rail NR class locomotive in Indian Pacific livery at fuelling point at Cook, South Australia in October 2019
(By the way, there is no such train as the Indian Pacific "Express".)
Maybe you could suggest a filename that would describe the image comprehensively while retaining your personal schema. I would be happy to change it as long as it describes the image sufficiently.

A late answer. The user schema should be respected: "If possible, language and schema should be preserved, as well as the camera or catalogue number". And IMO Item 2 isn't fulfilled, please have a look to the examples. We do not need any specific subject within the filename, there is a description and there is depicts (P180) as structured data. Additionally the filename is part of the license attribution. BTW: There are more than 5.000 search results at Google for "Indian Pacific Express". That's not a reason for a valid name, but the term is used often. --XRay talk 05:40, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Though you're showing aggressive ownership, which goes against this. Bidgee (talk) 05:52, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Do you think so? I can't believe it. I believe in being polite with one another. And if something is wrong, we should have an agreement. --XRay talk 06:18, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
I can follow your argument with the "Express" term. So I'll rename the files. Thank you. --XRay talk 06:15, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
All files renamed and description updated. (The SDC data will be fixed be my bot.) I think it's a good solution for both of us. --XRay talk 06:36, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Category:Darwin

[edit]

I'm baffled about Category:Darwin. What would be its purpose that isn't already fulfilled by Category:Darwin, Northern Territory? Calistemon (talk) 07:28, 21 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your prompt. I had not seen "Darwin, Northern Territory", for some reason (probably going too fast for my own good). That said, is it acceptable to do redirects in Commons (Darwin → Darwin, Northern Territory)? SCHolar44 (talk) 07:34, 21 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
It isn't a problem, Commons:Categories allows for it, there actually is a Template:Category redirect as well as User:RussBot to move any files accidently placed in the redirect. Calistemon (talk) 07:40, 21 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you again. Unless you think otherwise, I'll turn the page into a Redirect (I have Move rights). SCHolar44 (talk) 07:45, 21 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
I already have. Calistemon (talk) 07:53, 21 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Just to let you know, I opted to make the category into a disambiguation one, which brings it in line with the English Wikipedia one. Calistemon (talk) 04:22, 22 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Excellent, Calistemon. Thank you for all your advice about this. SCHolar44 (talk) 06:51, 22 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Rail Maps SA

[edit]

Be happy to advise you on your rail maps for SA, as there are some factual errors there. Sulzer55 (talk) 10:23, 3 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Many thanks for your offer, Sulzer55! Please let me know the particular maps and the details. I'm unwell at the moment so there may be some delay in getting back. Best wishes,  :-) SCHolar44 (talk) 05:31, 4 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hello Sulzer55, seeing your signature on the comment you made at the Wikipedia Talk:One Rail Australia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:One_Rail_Australia&action=edit&section=6) reminded me that I hadn't heard from you about the above. I'm keen to improve the map -- I'll direct this note to Wikipedia, since I see your Wikimedia Commons link is showing red. Looking forward to hearing from you. Abandoned railway employee house, Rawlinna, 2019 (cropped)

[edit]

I've seen your extracted image. I fixed your license violation. You created the cropped version and you are responsible. --XRay 💬 10:03, 20 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

I see you have not mellowed as the years go by, Dietmar: "licence violation ... you are responsible". Oh dear. WP:AGF. SCHolar44 (talk) 12:21, 20 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
I have accepted your good will and added the necessary information for you. But please also respect the license conditions, which state that the person who puts a modified version into circulation must also be named. I don't want to receive any requests because of the modifications. --XRay 💬 15:22, 20 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for getting back to me, Dietmar, and in particular about the licence condition, of which I had been unaware. Cheers, Simon – SCHolar44 🇦🇺 💬 at 08:19, 1 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
