Username "Vera de Kok" blocked

Hey there. I'm trying to register the username "Vera de Kok", but even though it's not showing up as a registered the registration form says it's already in use. It is in a sense: I've been relabeling the attribution in the photographs I've uploaded with this account to my full name for a long time now. I'm registering the new account because in this new year, I'm trying to add to my income by doing comissioned portrait photography. Vera ^(talk) 11:03, 1 January 2025 (UTC)

Have you tried using your admin account to create the account under that username? Go via Special:CreateAccount and click the first checkbox. --Min☠︎rax^«¦talk¦» 12:28, 1 January 2025 (UTC)

Then I get a "Username entered already in use. Please choose a different name" message. But when you go to User:Vera de Kok it says it isn't in use. It's fairly misterious. Vera ^(talk) 15:01, 1 January 2025 (UTC)

@1Veertje: Okay, I'd want to close it here, and also decline the accidental rename request. You'd need to file an usurpation request at meta:SRUC to get hold of the username at Vera de Kok. Works for you? The account at that username was once globally-suppressed, the reason why you are getting into these conflicts. It does appear to be possible, we just need to add bot=True to the API call, but I can't figure out where in the script the appropriate API call is. No, it has not been stopped. Flickr made some API changes to avoid people embeding fickr files on their sites. Flickr wants them hosted locally to reduce server load. This (unfortunately) does not consider our use case. All the Best -- Chuck ^Talk 17:45, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

@Krd The discussion so far has been at User talk:Zhuyifei1999#FlickreviewR 2 getting 403'd by Flickr. FlickreviewR 2 is currently running but not expected to function, though it is checking every 15 minutes to see if there's still an error. There's no particular urgency here as I don't expect things to be fixed especially quickly, though we'll see. I’m familiar with how the Translate extension works, I know its documentation, and I know how to properly mark pages for translation. @Aafi: Usually, it is enough to prepare one page, and in my case it is mw:User:BZPN/Example (yes, I put the translation units <-- T:X --> on purpose to show that I know how the PageTranslation works; I know that normally this is done using a special page). also, we don't wrap bulk of text (particularly those in tables/lists) in one unit. Each line needs its separate wrap. A blank line between two paragraphs also automatically separates the unit. I know that the extension adds T-units automatically, but my goal was simply to demonstrate my understanding of the extension. After all, I clearly stated above that I did it on purpose, because I know that it normally happens automatically. However, if you prefer, I can prepare a new page without manually adding them. As for m:Meta:Internationalization guidelines: wrapping the heading itself is a common practice. The above page may show otherwise, but there is nothing wrong with it. This makes it more convenient and clear to translate using Special:Translate. BZPN (talk) 11:28, 2 February 2025 (UTC)

Request for translation administrator

I’d like to be able to mark pages for translation after editing them, such as Help:Gadget-ACDC. They’re supposed to be semantic line breaks. I find that they make the source text easier to write and edit, as I can move around the text in two dimensions instead of it just being one very long line. Apparently the translation interface shows line breaks literally, which is unfortunate, so I’m not going to revert your edit; that said, please don’t do it in other pages I’ve written (unless they’re also translatable). Shirayuki

This MW.org administrator keeps doing nonsensical changes at times. The last one affecting me was undoing an edit of mine to fix a broken URL. He claims to use a neutral URL to allow automatic redirection to the user's preferred language version of the page but his change simply creates a dead link because there's no other page than the en/US page.

confirmed right for bot trial run

I sorta got into a limbo with one of my bot requests - Commons:Bots/Requests/EUResourcesBot (1). It'll be uploading PDFs but I can't run a trial without the bot flag or confirmed rights, due to Special:AbuseFilter/281. Is there a workaround on this?
